Francis R. Jones (b. 1955) is a senior lecturer at Newcastle University, where he teaches translation studies and researches poetry translation, with a special focus on Yugoslavia and its successor states. He studied Serbo-Croat and German at Cambridge and modern Serbo-Croat poetry at the University of Sarajevo. His many translations include several volumes of poetry by Ivan V. Lalić, Vasko Popa’s Complete Poems (with the late Anne Pennington, Anvil, 2011) and the Dutch poet Hans Faverey’s Against the Forgetting (Anvil, 1995). He has twice been awarded the Poetry Society’s European Poetry Translation Prize for his translations of books by Ivan V. Lalić.
